Okay, i was reading the comments on the last post and decided to make this.

JUST WHAT SIDE IS SNAPE WORKING FOR ANYWAYS!? I mean, I have really no idea although I am beginning to think he's good. I read this thing on Mugglenet giving reasons he could be good and reasons he could be bad. Let's have a debate. Who thinks he is good and who thinks he is bad? Make sure to give reasons.

8:31 pm - Lilly Potter

keeni84
This has been bugging me since before the most recent book but...

Why did Voldemort give Lilly Potter a choice? I don't understand. When Voldemort came to the Potters home, he first killed James Potter. Outright. But when he came to murder(?) Harry, he gave her a choice...A powerful Dark Lord, who murders in the blink of an eye, who tortures and kills, who thrives on blood-purity within the wizarding world, gives a MUGGLE-BORN a choice?!

He told her...to step out of the way. And he told Harry that his mother "needn't have died". It's very striking to me that Voldemort would do something like this. I don't understand it at all.

What are your thoughts? I am totally stumped by this.

4:49 am - Ok, question time

clevman
Alright, most people probably think this has been done to death, but I was just talking with my roomates girlfriend who finished the book, and she was confused about the horcrux business too. So, Dumbledore died for basically nothing, right? And what was Regulus Black (R.A.B. for the uninitiated) planning to do with the potion...thing that Dumbledore drank? And it was fake because Regulus had got there first, right? And thats why Voldemort most likely killed him, I d imagine. But we both don't really understand what Regulus was going to get out of it. Would he like, be able to come back like Tom Riddle did in the second book? Was that his plan, did HE want to have a horcrux for himself, and thats why Voldemort had him killed? See, I think I missed the entire point of Dumbledore drinking that potion and R.A.B. because I was so messed up over D dying. So I just rushed to the end and didn't take in much after JKR decided to hit me with that huge freakin shocker. So what does everyone else think? I know Keeni always had good ideas on things like this, so maybe you can help?

3:09 pm - R.A.B. continued

wongwizard101
...as the earlier person posted about the identity of R.A.B. being Regulus Black i have some more clues and ideas of my own

1. in OOTP, the gang find a "heavy locket that no one could open"...could this be the missing horcrux? most likely. if any1 wants to look it up, i forget what page it's on, but it's around the time where Sirius shows Harry the tapestry and then the eat lunch

2. someone on Mugglenet.com wrote an amazing editorial about Kreacher's place in the story. Is it possible that he was the one that helped Regulus get at the locket. Since the boat was too small for 2 grown wizards, Kreacher would have fit perfectly. OR - Regulus could have died and Kreacher bring the locket back to the house...?

3. in the interview that Mugglenet/TLC did with JKR the conversation went like this:
[MA stands for Melissa Anelli of the Leaky Cauldron]

MA: R.A.B.

JKR: Ohhh, good.

[All laugh.]

JKR: No, I'm glad! Yes?

MA: Can we figure out who he is, from what we know so far?

[Note: JKR has adopted slightly evil look here]

JKR: Do you have a theory?

MA: We've come up with Regulus Black.

JKR: Have you now?

MA: Uh-oh.

[Laughter.]

JKR: Well, I think that would be, um, a fine guess.

MA: And perhaps, being Sirius’s brother, he had another mirror –

JKR: [drums fingers on soda can]

MA: Does he have the other mirror, or Sirius’s mirror —

JKR: I have no comment at all on that mirror. That mirror is not on the table.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
if anyone wants to read the interview it's on The Leaky Cauldron and Mugglenet
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

what does every1 think? have you come up with anything else?

This will be short, simple and sweet.

If you could choose any position on the Quidditch team, what would it be and why?

Me? I'd like seeker. I love a good rush, and I wouldn't mind not being chased by bludgers constantly like the chasers.

3:40 pm - Snape's turn

keeni84
I was saying before how it was important to note WHEN Severus Snape turned away from Voldemort, and went to Dumbledore.

Reading online at The Floo Market, I found a timeline of Snape's life...with interesting results.

Severus Snape

The interesting bit I noticed was this:

1981(before October): (Snape) Approaches Dumbledore and offers to be secret agent for The Order of the Phoenix. Snape also applies for the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts; Dumbledore hires him as Potions Master instead (OP17).

So if this bit of information is true, that means that Severus Snape turned to Dumbledore BEFORE Lily and James Potter were murdered by Voldemort.

Which also means that it is likely that Snape was the one who tipped off Dumbledore to the fact that Voldemort was going to attack the Potters.

What do you think?

I'm also thinking back about Snape's Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa Malfoy. Shouldn't the vow have been served when Snape murdered Dumbledore? If that's true, why did Snape help Draco escape? He could have let the kid fend for himself, but he didn't.

8:49 pm - Subjects

clevman
Ok, and I hope everyone is sitting down, because this is REALLY nerdy, but...has anyone ever thought about what classes they would take if they went to Hogwarts? See, this whole magic issue is something that has fascinated me since I was a kid, I ve said quite a few times to anyone who cares to listen that I would completely devote my life to magic if it actually DID exist, and its the main reason I read the Dragonlance books back in the day and liked Raistilin, who was a magic user/wizard for anyone who has never heard of those books. So I ve actually given thought to what subjects I would take at Hogwarts. Whats everyone else think, it can be for personal reasons like just because you like who teaches the class (which means a girl or two will probably post that she would want to take potions), or because its something thats always interested you. If anyone else wants to talk about this, I ll post what I think about it too. I already discussed this with a really cool girl I met through this forum, and it made me wonder if anyone else had thought about it too, since she did nt point and laugh at me when I brought it up.

Sorry I've been inactive this weekend. Went to the warped tour and I've been a bit dead feeling after that.

Anyway. What do we think of this?

ES: Our other “Ask Jo” question (the one about James and Lily’s sacrifices), was from Maria Vlasiou, who is 25, of the Netherlands. And then the third is from Helen Poole, 18, from Thirsk, Yorkshire – also one of the “Plot Thickens” fan book authors. It’s the one about Grindelwald, which I’m sure you’ve been gearing up for us to ask.

JKR: Uh huh.

ES: Clearly -

JKR: Come on then, remind me. Is he dead?

ES: Yeah, is he dead?

JKR: Yeah, he is.

ES: Is he important?

JKR: [regretful] Ohhh...

ES: You don’t have to answer but can you give us some backstory on him?

JKR: I'm going to tell you as much as I told someone earlier who asked me. You know Owen who won the [UK television] competition to interview me? He asked about Grindelwald [pronounced "Grindelvald" HMM…]. He said, “Is it coincidence that he died in 1945,” and I said no. It amuses me to make allusions to things that were happening in the Muggle world, so my feeling would be that while there's a global Muggle war going on, there's also a global wizarding war going on.

ES: Does he have any connection to --

JKR: I have no comment to make on that subject.

[Laughter.]

MA: Do they feed each other, the Muggle and wizarding wars?

JKR: Yeah, I think so. Yeah. Mm.

MA: You've gone very quiet.

[All laugh; JKR maniacally.]

MA: We like when you get very quiet, it means —

ES: You’re clearly hiding something.

Alright, I only have a few minutes before I go to work, but I noticed no one has posted anything new in a few days, so I figured I would throw something out there that me and another person were talking about in the posts, what do you all think of the idea that Harry saw a Phoenix just after Dumbledores death? I mean, I think it was pretty much said that it WASN'T fawkes, but I think it was Fawkes out there singing the mourning song after he died. But I guess what I had thought is that, MAYBE, its a possibility that Dumbledore could have done some sort of death spell that turned him into a Phoenix after he died? Is that pretty far out there? It probably is, but hey, it happened in X-Men, it could happen again (HAHA). How the heck are phoenixes born anyways? I dont know, see thats why the ending to this book was great, because its vague. Open-ended endings are the best. Whats everyone else think?

Hey all. I'm a new co-mod here so...yeah. I'm Katie in case you cared.

Alrighty. I know we've all been thinking about it. Who else was dissapointed with Ron and Hermione not getting together in this book? I mean I knew it wasn't going to happen until book 7 but I..really hoped it would. As the book was winding down - I found myself going "okay, 12 more pages....it could happen". Then I got a bit paranoid and thought "What if it never happens!!" Do you think it will ever happen? Or maybe do you think one of them will...er...not make it and 6 years or flirting, fighting, and jealousy will be in vain? I'd just like to discuss their relationship in general. What do you guys think. What do you think will happen in terms of thier relationship in book 7?

And while we're talking about love.....what do you think about Harry and Ginny? Was he being too noble when he broke it off? Will they ever get back together. Let's discuss.

1:22 pm - JK Rowling Interview

alsonwonderland
Ok-Let's analise the JK Rowling interview to death (from the leaky cauldrun-http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/extras/aa-jointerview1.html)
MA: OK, big big big book six question. Is Snape evil?

JKR: [Almost laughing] Well, you've read the book, what do you think?

ES: She's trying to make you say it categorically.

MA: Well, there are conspiracy theorists, and there are people who will claim -

JKR: Cling to some desperate hope [laughter] -

ES: Yes!

MA: Yes!

ES: Like certain shippers we know!

[All laugh]

JKR: Well, okay, I'm obviously – Harry-Snape is now as personal, if not more so, than Harry-Voldemort. I can't answer that question because it's a spoiler, isn't it, whatever I say, and obviously, it has such a huge impact on what will happen when they meet again that I can't. And let's face it, it's going to launch 10,000 theories and I'm going to get a big kick out of reading them so [laughs] I'm evil but I just like the theories, I love the theories.

ES: I know Dumbledore likes to see the good in people but he seems trusting almost to the point of recklessness sometimes.

[Laughter] Yes, I would agree. I would agree.

ES: How can someone so -

JKR: Intelligent -

ES: be so blind with regard to certain things?

JKR: Well, there is information on that to come, in seven. But I would say that I think it has been demonstrated, particularly in books five and six that immense brainpower does not protect you from emotional mistakes and I think Dumbledore really exemplifies that. In fact, I would tend to think that being very, very intelligent might create some problems and it has done for Dumbledore, because his wisdom has isolated him, and I think you can see that in the books, because where is his equal, where is his confidante, where is his partner? He has none of those things. He’s always the one who gives, he’s always the one who has the insight and has the knowledge. So I think that, while I ask the reader to accept that McGonagall is a very worthy second in command, she is not an equal. You have a slightly circuitous answer, but I can't get much closer than that.

Does this change anyone's mind about the Snape-following-Dumbledore's-order's theory?

This is from a BBC interview-
JP: So there will be some pairing up will there in this book?

JKR: Well in the fullness of time.

JP: Unlikely pairings? Not Hermione and Draco Malfoy or anything like that?

JKR: I don't really want to say as it will ruin all the fan sites. They have such fun with their theories - and it is fun, it is fun. And some of them even get quite close. No-one has ever - I have gone and looked at some of it and no-one's ever... There is one thing that if anyone guessed I would be really annoyed as it is kind of the heart of it all. And it kind of explains everything and no-one's quite got there but a couple of people have skirted it. So you know, I would be pretty miffed after 13 or 14 years of writing the books if someone just came along and said I think this will happen in book seven. Because it is too late, I couldn't divert now, everything has been building up to it, and I've laid all my clues.

I wonder what that means? like the whole point of the books isnt about stopping Voldemort, but about love? Hmmmm.
Ok I have to run now, but I'll try to find more onterviews ^_^

1:52 pm - Just something I m curious about...

clevman
If this is lame and very common (and it probably is), go ahead and delete my post, but I m just curious about, whats everyones favorite characters? I d imagine that everyone has one character they can go on and on about, and I've got some ideas reading what we already talked about, but I was just curious what other people thought. I wondered if anyone had any strange favorites, like I know one girl who said she wanted to marry Snape, which I thought I was a bit strange. And in keeping with that idea, whats everyones most hated character too, is there someone in the book that you shudder everytime you see their name?

11:01 pm - Now that Dumbledore is gone.

poseidon__
Firstly. I'd like to thank the mod for giving me posting access.
And Secondly..
Harry is now without guidance. It was difficult enough to go after the one horcrux WITH Dumbledore. Harry wouldn't have been able to make it into the cave without him. He's learning that he has to do things on his own, but I wonder if he'll have a sort of new mentor, or if dumbledore will have left him something more to help him? Maybe his portrait? And could the portrait actually help harry? I think JKR states that the portraits are merely imprints and mostly repeat catch phrases. Maybe fawkes will be of some help. What do you all think?
Sorry this is such a lame discussion. But the locket and snape topics have been discussed to death.

12:26 pm - Defence Against The Dark Arts

alsonwonderland
Thanks everyone for joining, I was hoping it was a good idea! Ok, since we were on the subject of Snape, last night I couldn't help wondering about the Defence Against the Dark Arts job. Dumbledore said that after Voldemort aplied for the job and got denied, they havent had a teacher last more than a year, right? And even if that happened right before Voldemort tried to kill Harry, thats like 16 years worth of teachers, what do you think thats about? A curse? And what was the real reason that Snape wanted it? And coincidence that the year he does get it Hogwart may not reopen? Hmmmm I cant wait to hear everyone's theories! Also, If anyone would like to co-mod, and have postin access, let me know, thanks!

2:17 pm - Where to start?

alsonwonderland
I thought we should start and the end and work our way through the rest of the book, no? Okay *dun dun dun*
Snape-Good or Evil? Who's side is he on? Why did Dumbledore trust him so much? I personaly hate Snape, always have. I think even if he is/was working for the order, he never showed kindness to anyone in it. If he was truly sorry for what he did to Lily & James, wouldn't he have felt sorry for Harry? Discuss!
